I read this book last night. It took me about 40 minutes and was EXCELLENT. Better than the regular Kit books, I think- and WAY better than the short stories.
The plot was well developed and had more than one thing going on. The mystery aspect was neat, it wasn't ever a scary mystery, but a "what's happening next" type mystery. My only qualm with the book is there was no way for you to solve the mystery before Kit. It didn't leave enough clues to figure it out. You could figure out the characters involved, but the rest of the information was never given. There was a very "happy for everyone" ending, that was somewhat hard to believe, but nice.
Overall, I expected not to like the mysterys (no idea why) and really ended up loving this one. A must read!
I don't know what reading level it is at, but I would say it is a little bit higher than the normal books.
